Four years ago an Annual Memorial Softball Tournament was begun in memory of Jim Wiggins, by his wife Carol, children Chris & Katie and family & friends – otherwise known as the “Gettin’ Wiggy” Team. Funds raised were donated to the YMCA Strong Kids campaign each year in Jim’s honour.
This year, due to the impact of the COVID pandemic they were unable to host a tournament, but that didn’t keep the “Gettin Wiggy” Team down – they ‘pivoted’ their planning and created hats with the “Wiggy” logo to sell and raise funds.
With the sudden passing of Mark Rollins in late June, Jim’s long time friend, the family & team wanted to honour Mark’s memory as well, so they chose to donate all of the proceeds towards Mental Health programs and community counselling. The Centre of Hope at the Enrichment Centre for Mental Health (ECMH), which was begun after a donation from Mark’s father, Maurice Rollins in 2015 was selected to receive the funds.
ECMH Executive Director Sandie Sidsworth was honoured to receive a cheque in the amount of $3000.00 in honour of these two life-long friends from Carol, Chris & Katie Wiggins – the highest amount the “Gettin Wiggy With It” Memorial Softball Tournament has raised so far.
We thank the “Gettin’ Wiggy” team for your incredible support of our agency, in honour of these two great men!
